    The Challenge

For a country located in the tropical monsoon region, Vietnam is especially vulnerable to natural disasters due to the influence of climate changes and complicated terrain. Being a developing country, they often suffer from devastating events due to the lack of sophisticated equipment to monitor and measure weather data in real-time, leading to inaccurate forecasting for hazardous phenomena.

To strengthen the capacity to cope with natural disasters caused by climate change in Vietnam, the Official Development Assistance (ODA) project was introduced by Japan to develop modernised meteorological services – incorporating advanced technology and provision of modern equipment to the Phu Lien Meteorological Radar Station, in Hai Phong City.

While the goal is to increase the capacity to issue accurate early warnings of the climate hazards in real-time; none will matter if there is no power to sustain the facility. Power grid failure is increasingly common in Vietnam due to their struggles in developing its energy industry, and most of their commercial facilities do not have sufficient backup power to keep the facility running in the event of a total power failure. To prepare ahead of time, the official contractor needed the best power supply equipment available in the market to ensure uncompromised operation of Phu Lien Radar Station.

    The Denyo Solution

While the contractor’s main concern was ensuring continuous operation of the radar station when the power grid is down, Denyo substantiated itself with a record of 3,740 hours of continuous operation in Indonesia – proving to be the best in the market. With that reputation, Denyo authorised distributor in Vietnam, TanKy Engineering and Equipment Co., Ltd, was brought in to provide the necessary backup power solutions.

4 units of Denyo generators were promptly supplied and installed at the Phu Lien Meteorological Radar Station. Given the importance of the situation, the configurations were done meticulously and swiftly; making sure the best defence against power outages is in place.
