Emergency Power For Welfare Home, Japan

Emergency Power For Welfare Home, Japan

    The Challenge

Hiroshima, Japan is blessed by a generally warm climate and is relatively unscathed by natural disasters such as earthquakes and typhoons. But everything changed when an unprecedented guerrilla rainstorm terrorised Hiroshima – causing killer flash floods in a matter of minutes. The catastrophic event has caused irreversible damages, and from that lesson, the people in Hiroshima understood the impact of disasters and began to develop disaster awareness.

Such catastrophic events can take down power poles in seconds, leaving an entire city without power supply for several days or longer – causing relative chaos and vulnerability. Planning ahead for disasters, a welfare home established in Fuchu, Hiroshima has requested for power generators that are durable and efficient – even in the face of an emergency.

    The Denyo Solution

Denyo started a discussion with the director of the welfare home to comprehend the challenges and understood their reliance on electricity. After all, it provides light and powers appliances in the facility.

Denyo proposed Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) Generator as their emergency power solution for three reasons. Firstly, LPG can be stored in a bulk tank and is highly accessible. Secondly, LPG will not degrade and is possible for long-term storage. Lastly, the Government has issued subsidies to welfare homes for purchases on LPG related-products as part of the country’s disaster response plan.

The proposal was accepted, and Denyo went the extra miles to work with the leading LPG provider in Japan to fully-utilise the subsidy – in helping the welfare home purchase the equipment and gas, as cheaply as possible.

Based on the power requirements, two units of Denyo LEG-54UST were supplied and installed next to the welfare home. Upon power failure, the generators are configured to automatically start and seamlessly support the electrical load; making sure the best defences are in place.
