About FIBA World Cup 2023

The FIBA World Cup 2023, short for the 2023 Fédération Internationale de Basketball World Cup, was the 19th edition of the most significant basketball event in the world, hosted for the first time by three nations: the Philippines, Japan, and Indonesia, from August 25 to September 10. The Philippines is especially eager to showcase its love for the sport to the world by hosting this prestigious event – after all, basketball is more than just a game for Filipinos. Thus, failure is not an option, and every part of the event has to be perfect to mark yet another milestone in the Philippines’ basketball.

The Challenge

In preparation for this significant event, the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP), the national sports association for basketball in the Philippines, is now shifting into high gear to ensure all event logistics, including generators, are in place to ensure the event and broadcast run smoothly and without power issues. Just as the FIBA World Cup 2023 is out to make history, so too is the broadcast and streaming coverage of the world meet.

When considering the meticulous assessment of stakeholders, the demand for top-tier equipment is paramount. Regarding power generators specifically, Denyo stands out as a prominent choice renowned for its proven reliability and widespread utilization across numerous prestigious events in the Philippines, such as the Shell Eco-marathon Asia. Thus, Hastings Motor Corporation (HMC), Denyo’s authorized dealer in the Philippines, was called to provide power solutions to support the event.

However, challenges arose during the process. In the first agreement of the Terms of Requirement (TOR), the initial demand was for ten sets of Denyo generators due to overlooked load declarations. Upon HMC’s load inspection, it became evident that more generators were needed to meet the total power demands spread across three event venues in the country. This, in turn, caused multiple revisions to the generator placement and cable layout in the venues. This unexpected revelation compressed the timeframe for setup, compelling HMC to improvise and provide 34 units of generators – ranging from 100kVA to 300kVA – instead of the originally agreed-upon 10. This unexpected occurrence required HMC to demonstrate efficiency, adaptability, and responsiveness to ensure the event’s success.

The Solution & Results

Despite all challenges, HMC’s capability in supplying additional generators on short notice, flexibility in coordinating with the electrical contractor and extensive experience with large-scale events enabled them to expedite the entire setup process – from seven to four days – exceeding every expectation. Undoubtedly, the event was a huge success, with phenomenal and record-breaking engagement levels that cemented its status as the biggest and most successful event in FIBA’s history. Thanks to HMC’s adept coordination, backed by the efficiency of Denyo generators. These 34 units of generators demonstrated their reliability by providing uninterrupted power while operating silently, ensuring an enjoyable experience for worldwide fans and players.
